 Vistas & Byways Opportunities
We invite OLLI at SF State members to help us publish Vistas & Byways. Please review the summary of the kinds of work we do, and, if interested, contact us with your questions and information.

What We Do

Publishing an issue of Vistas & Byways, from receipt of the first contributor's submission to the online launch, is a three-month process. For our next issue, this will be August through October 2019. Depending on skills and interest, an individual may volunteer to do a variety of tasks:

​Editorial:
Our Editorial Board receives, reviews, and selects submissions for the issue, then works with authors and artists to prepare them for publication. Though each Board member is primarily responsible for a selection of works within specific genres, all literary editors are expected to read all literary works and attend three or four bi-weekly meetings of the Editorial Board to make decisions.

Additional editorial tasks include visual arts curation, copy and content writing for editorial and informational pages in the publication, copy editing and proofreading.

Online Publishing:
In addition to website design and construction using Weebly tools and platform, online publishing tasks include digital layout, photography, photo editing and graphic design. For more information, visit our web training and practice page at vbwebpractice.weebly.com.

Support: 
We need help with publicity and promotion, our semi-annual launch parties, administrative work and data analytics.

Ways for You to Help

If you're part of our core publishing team, as an Editorial Board member or an online editor of our website, we will expect you to be engaged with the team, before and after your primary work, throughout the three-month publishing period.

If you prefer a shorter commitment, or can help with preparation or promotion before or after our main publishing periods, we welcome you to volunteer for the many other editorial, online publishing and support opportunities we offer.
